John Mearshemier,  the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, gave a speech to the European Parliament a few days before the July 2026 NATO Summit in Ankara, Türkiye.

Mearsheimer examined the conventional wisdom on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by reviewing the history that is seldom discussed in western media or political circles. He also reviewed the comparative advantages each side has in the current war. In the end, he sees a Russian victory – with a frozen battlefield with ongoing  efforts to destabilize the situation
